This Lapis is a nice triangle with a lot of flecks of pyrite
in it, so I set it in gold-filled. It is a more open
setting than I usually use and the top point of the triangle is
held only by the coil.
These pieces take nearly as long to think about as they do
to make. I don't know that I could just sit down and do
one from start to finish.
The beginnings of this one are under 2/8/07. I kind of
like to have 2 of these working at the same time and go to them
between working on other pieces.

We
are trying to prepare photographs to send to Lark Books to see
if perhaps we could be involved in their Wedding Ring book.
Even if we don't get in, it will help us know how to go about
submitting our work better next time.
I have been spending some time with the
geode slices. I love setting them because each one is
like a tiny crystal cave with its own story.

This is Hemi. Don says it is because of some sort of
engine or carburetor they use in Dodge trucks. I thought
he was a Hemingway cat because he is a polydactyl (mitten cat
like Hemmingway cats), he has a good start on filling those big
paws from Foggy, our big boy that passed away. He has 22
toes. He has thumbs, but they are not opposable, so I am
hoping that he doesn't get too big for his britches.
He is a purring machine. Loves his petting. We
got him from a rescue, so I think he is still a little worried
that he is going to go somewhere else. He has survived
several different places in his short 5 months.
Amy (31 year old daughter) is going to Fiji for her birthday
- last year she was in New Zealand.

I keep seeing the herringbone with a bead or stone in the
center, but thought it would be interesting just by itself.
This one would also be pretty with a crystal in the center.
I like a little heavier gauge for the wrapping part in the center.
The 26 gauge gauge was a little too lacy and fine. I made
several in copper and this would be a really pretty pin in
either copper colored with the torch or maybe even some
Spectrum™
anodized small gauge titanium or niobium wire with a silver pin.
I don't know if it is unique enough to do a tutorial or not.

Here is a picture of our photography set up. Sometimes
even the best set up has obstacles. This particular
obstacle is Sassy. Since we lost our wonderful big cat
Foggy, she has been our shining light.
This is the TableTop Studio. We have had a number of
different photographic set ups and this one has definitely been
the best.

This
is a beautifully cut and polished lapis luzili. I am
trying a different technique with a setting much bigger and
a different shape than the stone. I don't quite know which
way it will go. Right now I am planning a longer wavy
weave to hold the bottom of the stone and the coil at the top
that will hold the top of the stone. Sometimes it is kind
of hard to hold the stone and look good at the same time.
Glue is tempting!

This is a 30 x 40 black onyx with a mixed metals wrap.
These bigger stones are kind of a hand full to wrap.
It kept shifting and trying to fall out. Tape helped
some, but it was still a mess. The bail kept
wandering around. It is all pretty well settled now I
think.
I have a beautiful 38 mm round lapis lazuli to set and I
am almost afraid to start it.
I got a tutorial to see how these settings work, and
that is a good start, but you never know which way the
particular stone will work best. Maybe after I
have more experience with this type of work it will be more
predictable. About all I know at the beginning is
which stone or stones I will use and what color of metal I
am going for.
