Workbench Log - December 2008

12/20/08

This is the Diva Ring finished.  It measures approximately 1 1/8" high and 1" wide.  The Amethyst is about 38 carats and the aquamarine is probably 29.  The garnet is 10 carats and the green topaz is just under a carat.

The difficulty of the piece was to give the pointed backs of the stones a place to rest while keeping the stones vertical in the ring.  The grid helped with that.  While you can see the weaving behind the stones, it is organized with the basketry and doesn't just look random.

Another problem of rings of this type is that they can't be resized.  This one was 8 1/2 and if I had been required to, I probably could have gotten and other half or quarer size out of the ring.

This is the Diva in progress.  It sets 4 faceted stones on a shank that has been developed into a basket with a grid built on top.  (Clear as mud?)

The ring is very comfortable and not nearly as heavy as it appears.

The Chimneyville show ended up being great.  The first night was rather slow, but we made up for it on Saturday and most definitely on Sunday.

This is the booth.  We will be making some adjustments, but it turned out very well.  We are raising the cases up and pulling it to the edge of the booth with maybe 2 ft or less for people to stand.

The flowers were beautiful and the showcases were perfect for the jewelry.  The photos could be bigger and we need a new storage chest.  We also got a dolly to carry things back and forth.  But, not too bad I guess.

We had enough orders to carry us right on through Christmas.
