Here is a little bit of a gallery from the
week.

I
guess that the results tell the story. Eleven students
made 136 wonderful and unusual pieces of jewelry in 5 days of
class. We wanted to show them in an interesting and
unusual way, so we took rocks from the rock pile and used them
for displays.
Judging from the reception the students received about their
work, they did a great job. It was wonderful to see how
proud they all were of the body of work they created this week.

The
class is going great - the students are quite amazing.
They are willing to try everything we ask of them and go even
further than we had planned.
Splitting appeared to be a pretty good idea, though there is
so much to cover that it is a bit hard to keep it organized.
I keep being afraid that we are pushing too hard and trying
to cover too much. This is typical of us though.

Time for the experiment - we hope to teach all 13 projects
in the 5 days with switching back and forth between the rooms as
we work.

Put your shoulder to the wheel
Push along, push along
Put your shoulder to the wheel for opal
Put your shoulder to the wheel
Push along, push aloooooooong
Put your shoulder to the wheel for oooopal
Sara Lee says to sing this while I am polishing the opals.
I sing away, but it still doesn't polish that well. I just
keep polishing until she says they are done.
Having a great time and I cut one beautiful Mexican Fire
Opal that I will keep.
Has been a grand experience.

We are cutting opals - I am really not that good at it, but
I love the equipment and playing with the rocks. I was
agonizing over one of the cuts and the guy next to me, Sam,
said, "Louise, it's only a rock." So I just started
cutting.
I can't really see the scratches or polish very
well, and Sarah Lee has to tell me if I need to keep on going.

We made it to William Holland and have a great campsite
overlooking the school. It is a great place with lots of
interesting things to see and do. Can't wait to go to
Opals tomorrow!
