Business Planning Worksheet

Our thanks to Don Coulson of Kingfisher Designs for this article on business planning.

The target market or niche for your website may be different than the target market or niche you serve in your business beyond your website.  This short worksheet can be used as a self assessment tool in building your business plan and strengthening your marketing plan.

Business plans are usually written to get bank financing, but it will help you focus your efforts if you have a written plan for even a cash business.  You will define the following for your business.

1) Description of the business
2) Marketing
3) Finances
4) Management

Take some time to answer these questions about your business and it will help you prepare

What is your business? (described in 25 words)

What is your exact client base?

    What is my niche?

What benefits do you provide for clients?

How do I reach my clients?

Do I have a task list and time line?

    Who is my competition?

How do they market their services?

What sets my business apart from my competitors?

What positives do I have for starting my business?

What do I need to upgrade or acquire to start my business?

Where do I see my business in 5 years?

Where do I see my business in 10 years?

Once you have answered these questions about your business, you should be able to write your business plan.  You will find help from the Small Business Association at the following website.
