Spiral and Crystal Earrings

These earrings are particularly interesting in Spectrum titanium or niobium because as the colors change very close together, so they pass each other in the spirals.

Materials Needed
  • 10" 18 gauge round anodized titanium or niobium wire
  • 4" 20 gauge round sterling silver wire
  • 2 - 10 mm crystal beads in round, diamond or square shape.

Tools Needed

  • Side Cutters
  • Flush Cutters
  • Round Nose Pliers
  • Flat Nose Pliers
  • 3/8" dowel
  • File

Cut your titanium or niobium into two 5" pieces.  File each end of the piece to smooth off any burrs before you begin your piece.

Make a loop at the end of the wire with your round nosed pliers.

Thread the crystal on the wire

Make a loop at the opposite end of the wire.  The loops will face away from each other.

Hold the loop in the flat nosed pliers - if you fear scratching the wire, wrap the pliers in masking or duct tape.  Wrap the spiral around the loop.

Continue your spiral.  You can do much of this spiral holding with your fingers rather than pliers.

Wrap the spiral around the other loop.  Make fewer wraps on the top loop than the bottom.  This may take some adjustment as you work.

Cut your silver into 2 pieces 4" long.

Make a loop at the end of each piece of silver.  Wrap the wire around a 3/8" dowel to  form the earwire.  Bend the end of the wire out slightly with fingers.

Hang the earring on the ear wire as shown with the spirals facing opposite directions so your earrings will be symmetrical.

Your finished earring looks like this.
