Website Updates

I finally got the shops going on the sites and started the layout of Don's site at www.wireknotters.com .   I even managed to change out a puzzle or two and add a few pages here and there.  It is still sadly out of date, but I am at least giving it my best.

Back Home

We have decided to try to finish the house.  We have built the place ourselves so far and with just a little work, we should be able to finish it up.  (She said naively).

Elk Teeth

We had an interesting project to work on.  Some people had shot an Elk, and kept the teeth.  After a bit of research, I found out that they are called Buglers.

This picture shows how Don cut the top off of the tooth to polish and use as a cabochon.  There was sort of dried meat inside the tooth.  I was pretty glad he was doing that as it was rather nerve wracking.

More Dental Work

This shows the two cabochons cut off of the original root.  We also cut 2 more slices for 2 more pendants to be worn casually.

It is a form of legal Ivory and can be carved also.  We had to boil the teeth a bit to get the "meat" out so they would not smell.  Also, Don soaked the slices in tea to give them some color.

Finally Jewelry

The photograph on the left shows the man's pendant.   Don did a beautiful job of locking that strangely shaped cabochon in on a wrapped setting.

If you look closely, you will notice the cavity in the center of the tooth.  There was also a crack in that tooth that you will see in the other pendants from the slices.

The photo to the right is the lady's pendant.  She wanted a Victorian setting and this is always a secure setting.  This tooth was less marred than the other one.

Casual Pendants

The photograph on the right shows the two slices we made into casual pendants.  They have leather thongs to hold them.

The one on the right has a butterfly bail.  Some Native Americans believe that butterflies carry your dreams.
