Workbench Log - February 2006

ShowCase

2/28

Have been working about 11 hours a day on the book.  I hope to get all finished with the first drafts by the 14th of March.  Still need to decide what I want to do with a download booklet from the Showcase site.

Class Preparation

2/26

Delivered pieces to the Beaded Frog as samples for classes we will both be teaching there. They did the judging for the guild over the weekend, so we are either in or out and don't know it.

Making Jewelry

2/25

Spent the entire day making jewelry.  Don wove 2 bracelets and I made several nalbinding pieces.  I did some flattening of the nalbinding for the first time.

Site Work

2/24

Additions to the Spectrum site - maintaining 3 sites at any level of interest and new content is very time consuming.

Free Booklet

2/22

Planning a free downloadable booklet of perhaps 3 - 4 pages for the Showcase site.  Still need to get a clearer focus on the subject.  I would like to get it online within a week.

2/21

Working on the Showcase.  Showcase is set up in frames with a table of chapter contents across the bottom and the contents of each chapter in a right side frame.

2/20

The application for the guild was mailed today.  We have put the finishing touches on the card and it is being printed now.  We have decided on the satin finish rather than the heavier high gloss cards.  So many details.

I fear I will forget how to make jewelry with all of these "office" tasks.

Artist's Statement

2/18

The application for the Guild includes an artist's statement.  It has been kind of hard, but this is what it looks like, at least for now.  Artist's Statement

Jurying Package

2/15/06

Working on the package that needs to go for jurying for the Craftsmen's Guild of Mississippi.  It probably takes several tries to get in, so we thought we would start now and maybe get in someday.  We send 5 photos and 3 pieces.

Card Decision

2/12/06

After some consideration we have decided to use a landscape design for the card and Don has been weaving a beautiful bracelet to go on the front.  We will use one of the other pieces as a watermark for the back side.  We hope to get this underway this week.  I did talk with the printer today and it sounded very positive.

Sales

2/11/06

Wow - we sold 11 pieces this weekend without even doing a show.  It is encouraging.  I can't wait to finish the shop in the Spectrum site so I can work on the book and finish that and get back to jewelry making (If I can remember how.

2/9/06

Time for some fun - I did a crossword puzzle for the Spectrum site  It was not as complicated as I was afraid it would be.  May be a good way to learn more about the stones.  If I can get the wire on the Spectrum site as well as the glass, I can get to work on Showcase.

Site Work

2/8/06

Have spent the last 2 days working on the sites.  The shop was redone, so I had to add a lot of pieces.  Naturally 4 pages would not work, so I spent much of the day reading and rewriting code.  Jewelry making is more fun.

Showcase Site

2/7/06

I added a Jumpstarts Samples page to the Showcase.  I am trying to get all of the sites in order so I can get back to work on the Showcase.  Perhaps by Wednesday or Thursday of this week I will be good to go.

New Kingfisher Site

2/6/06

I have both the Spectrum site and the Kingfisher site ready to go and hook up to the redesigned cart.  I hope they all work well together.  Maybe i will forget how to make jewelry with all of this silliness.  Now both sites are ready to add pieces.

Old Kingfisher Site

2/5/06

Typical case of "I like it today.  This is the way the Kingfisher site was (top).  The bottom is the latest redesign where I cleaned up the side links a lot and changed out the splash graphic

Organizing

2/4/06

Started reorganizing the beads.  I thought it would take about 3 hours.  It ended up taking 2 full days, but they are organized, labeled and at least temporarily easy to find.

Old Spectrum Site

New Spectrum Site

2/2/06

Since we decided to go ahead and put jewelry making materials on this site and already had the Kingfisher Designs site, we tried to figure out how to integrate the single shopping cart in both sites.  I redesigned the Spectrum site to have a very similar look to the Kingfisher Designs site.

It is a typical case of "Begin as you mean to continue."  (Which I should have done.)
