Workbench Log - February 2008

2/05/08

I have been doing a lot of rethinking about the Website.  For a while I had been thinking of just eliminating the shopping cart as so many of the top people seem to be doing.  However, I have decided to show only certain lines of what we do.  we will be introducing the ByPass Rings and Interchangeables and I am putting some woven pendant online also.  I hope to have this up within a week.

Rings

I have been playing with the idea of woven rings for some time now and even bought one of Eni's tutorials on the subject.  It is very well done, but I only actually read one page then decided to take off on my own.

Honestly haven't read the rest of it and that is mainly because I didn't want to be influenced in my quest for something interesting beyond a basic structure, which was right along with what I had been planning.

The photo on the right shows the structure of the interior of the ring, but you really can't make out a lot of what is going on.  These do take a lot of time, but most of the time has to do with just looking and experimenting to see what to put where next.

Scarab Ring

This is the second large ring.  I am working out some less involved woven rings, but this will be one of those that takes a lot of thought and time.  The scarab is actually a ceramic bead.

If I can remember to do it, I will try to get several in-progress pictures up to show how the development happens - I have some ideas, but you never quite know if those will work out.

Woven ByPass Rings

I have been developing a line of ByPass rings.  So many people have enlarged knuckles and can no longer wear their rings, so I thought these might be nice for them.  Here are a couple of the newer ones.

The weave is getting a little more even now and looking much better.  I still have a long ways to go.

We have needed cards for quite some time now because the information has changed.  We have new website and email addresses and I added the landline phone.

Our work has diverged so much that we will each have separate cards now.  Don's photographs are not yet ready, so mine are being made now and we will do his as soon as we find a photograph that is just right.

I had a little trepidation about having a vertical card, but decided I would give it a try this time.  It is to be satin on one side and matte on the other

This is a new woven ring with two stones.  It took a little different approach with a similar technique.  I am trying to write a tutorial on how to do this ring so I am trying to come up with some variations.

This one has different lines and almost latches.  These rings are not for constant wear, but for special occasions.

It also contours to fit the finger on the inside of the hand.  You can see this with my stubby little hands.

Blue Skies and Golden Rainbows

Variations on a theme has me pushing the Woven Wave ByPass Ring in more directions.  I have about 4 more planned at least to put on the tutorial as ideas.

Have been having some problems with my camera, but I think I figured it out.  So maybe I can go ahead and do the tutorial now.

I spent much of the day working on Don's website because the link came out in the magazine, so here I am with not much of a website at the link.  Missing an opportunity.

We are working over the next couple of days to try to get some photos on the site and taking an entirely new approach by doing portraits of the pieces with natural "stuff".

2/25/08

Have spent much of the last 3 days working on the working on a tutorial for the Woven Wave ByPass ring.  I have sent it to two friends to see if it makes a bit of sense to them.  It is very hard to know whether it is good or not, so I am thinking that other eyes can see if the questions are being answered.
