Workbench Log - May 2007

5/30/07

The articles have been up for a month now.  I have 11 articles on about 45 sites, which translates to 495 incoming links without counting the articles that have been picked up for other sites.  The sales of Website ShowCase have picked up quite a lot in the last 2 weeks.  So, I think I will keep on plugging.  Lots of work, but I have some software that helps me upload the articles pretty quickly.

I

I just got a note that I have been selected as a Platinum Articles Expert at Ezine.  Here is a link to my articles.   I think it just means I have written a lot of articles, but they are being read and downloaded for use on other websites.

I have been submitting the first series of articles to a number of sites and will be adding more as often as I can.  I have bought some software to help me get them online.  It doesn't automatically add them, but lets me add them and chose the categories then submit.  After having to submit all of the articles to a lot of sites, I have made a resolution to submit each one after it is written.

I need to focus on some more jewelry articles and some articles on business and jewelry websites.

Trois Ame'tiste

This piece is has several first's.  It is the first with natural crystals, the first with 30 gauge wire, the first with multiple gauges used in the coils and the weaving, the first with three versions of one stone - amethyst and the first with a bail at each "end" so it can be worn either way.

I am working on a long tall onyx just now, but planning a woven piece that will hang from either "end" and is also reversible.  This one nearly is with a lot of weaving and intricate work on the back.

I hope it looks better in the photographs when Don takes them.  I am just NOT a photographer.

I have been writing articles and submitting them on a pretty consistant basis and I can see the difference in the visitors to the site and sales of ShowCase. My goal is at least 30 articles right away and submissions to at least 50 sites.  This works out to 1500 incoming links.  On one of the sites they have logged over 700 visitors in 2 weeks from 10 articles.  Not bad at all.  It is just pretty time consuming.

Twined Basket

This rib basket is made of two types of wire so you can control the color striping.  This shows a two color vertical stripe.  I think I can make checks and chevrons with this technique - it will just take some planning.

Also - on the top of this one I am trying to find a braid edge, but I didn't do it tight enough.  If I tighten it up, I think the edge can be braided

Rib Basket

This is one of the rib baskets with the ribs on the outside.  I am planning one where I move the ribs in and out to create a pattern.  Once I get this one working the way I want to and get a decent center on it, it will be flattened and I think I can do an interesting series from that.  I made this one on a dowel of the side of the inside of the piece and it is incredibly smooth inside because I pulled it very tight.

Vase Basket

With this basket I am working shaping and I tried adding beads.  I am not that much of a beader and it really doesn't seem that they enhanced the basket at all.  I have been working with 5 different techniques for weaving the baskets and this one seems to be the most easily shaped.  However, coiling is also very controllable and allows shaping.

This basket is about 1 1/2 inches tall and maybe an inch wide.
