Workbench Log - June 2007

6/14/07

This little bucket basket has a hinged handle.  I am not satisfied at how it looks, but I can see that it is getting to be what I want it to be.  I am thinking of making a small collection of gold and silver baskets for collectors.  I combined the technique used in 2 of the other baskets in this series.

The edges are still not that great - I still have to figure out a better edge as that one looks like a mess.

Here is the bail.  It is kind of predictable. Just a woven bail.  I attached it after the fact, which is not all that great I don't think.  I probably should have attached it before.

Though, a brilliant person on one of the wire groups suggested using a tubing that was smooth and heavier.  So I am thinking that the next one will be smaller and use finer wire and have a smooth bail to contrast with the heavily textured bezel.

I do like the edge it makes but I don't know whether it will work with a smaller stone.

This is nalbinding woven on a base and used as a bezel.  I haven't yet figured out how to put a bail on the pendant.  It is a very secure bezel on a thick big stone, but I don't know how it will work with a smaller stone.

I have seen bezels in a needle lace technique, but they didn't lace in tightly and look even.  I had started this one that way and it just wasn't nice and neat, so switched over midway sort of.

Working hard this week - I am on page 170 of the book with rewrites and did my 13th article for the sites.

I have been making my pages.  I tried to increase it to 30 pages a day, but the quality just isn't there over about 20 a day.  Now I am also reformatting the book.

I wrote an article, on adding ethnic jewelry to your wardrobe.  It is on about 45 sites and seems to be getting a good response.  Next is an article on the creative use of artisan jewelry in your wedding.  Considering I am such an authority on weddings  (yeah -- right) I have a huge amount of research that I need to do

Goal Setting

I am rewriting Website ShowCase.  Right now my goals is 20 pages a day.  I also plan to post at least one new article a week.  This will make for a pretty full schedule for the next few weeks.  Once Website ShowCase is finished, I will be working on one of two other eBooks to be announced later.  Also - I need to be making 3 pieces of jewelry a week and preparing for the class we will be teaching at Wildacres.  I guess it is a good thing I don't have a car.

Website ShowCase

We finally figured decided how to handle the new editions and future eBooks on website development for artisans.  We are broadening the scope to all artisans instead of just jewelry artisans.

Website ShowCase:  Artisan's Guide to Website Development, Maintenance and Marketing will be followed with new information in shorter eBooks that will address specific topics.  The first book is for beginners or intermediates and will sometimes be used as reference in the planned new books.
